Jobs In Cloud Computing Continue To Grow…

Mobile apps and cloud computing are arguably this year’s hottest tech trends – so it comes as little surprise that IT professionals expect those two areas to offer the most employment opportunities in the tech sector over the next five years.

In a recent poll of 1,000 tech professionals conducted by IBM ( IBM ), 91 percent of respondents said cloud-based services would supplant on-premise computing among enterprise IT customers. And 55 percent said mobile apps would be in greater demand than conventional software, suggesting that developers will have to modify their skill sets to compete.

The shift in tech trends will create some jobs, to be sure – but it may also eliminate others.”The need for skills related to installing technology and applications or bolting together hardware and software will decline with cloud,” IBM cloud channel sales manager Bob Getchell predicted to CIO magazine .

Social media, the survey respondents said, will also become a driver of job growth. Even among small businesses, social media use is on the rise: A recent American Express survey shows that 40 percent of small businesses are using social networking to promote their offerings, up from 10 percent a year ago.
